Having your cat or dog spayed or neutered is an essential step in responsible pet care. Having your pet altered involves removing the sexual organs necessary for reproduction. It also helps to remove the desire and distractions driven by hormonal urges.
If done early enough, the procedure can help prevent aggression and some medical issues such as infections in the uterus like pyometra and testicular cancer. It also helps with keeping overpopulation at a minimum as shelters are almost always overflowing. At Princess Animal Hospital, we offer both laser and traditional spaying and neutering.
How old should a cat or dog be before they are neutered/spayed?
A consultation with one of our veterinarians will help determine the best time for your cat or dog to undergo their procedure. On average, we recommend that animals be spayed or neutered before they reach sexual maturity.
If you have any questions or would like more information about the procedure, please give us a call at 613.634.7123.
With recent changes to restrictions on businesses, we are pleased to advise that effective May 25, 2020 the restrictions on veterinary practices have been lifted. Based on these changes, below are some important updates to our operating policies.
1. WE CAN NOW SEE ALL CASES BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
This includes vaccines, wellness exams, blood work, spays and neuters, dental services, and more!
2. SAFETY MEASURES TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE
Continue our "closed waiting room" policy to protect our clients and staff. When you arrive, please remain outside the hospital and use your cell phone to call or text. We will take a history of your pet's health and discuss any concerns. A staff member will then meet you outside to bring your pet into the hospital for an examination. We are currently allowing one client to come in with their pet following the guidelines of the KFL&A public health. The Veterinarian will call you to discuss the recommended treatment plan. After your appointment, a staff member will return your pet to you outside, and take care of any needed medications and payment. If you're concerned about coming to your appointment due to Covid-19, please take this self-assessment. Covid Self-Assessment
